Lavender

Lavender has been used by Mediterranean peoples for more than 2,500 years. Its healing properties rank it among the 20 most important herbs and have rightly given it the title "Blue Gold".

Lavender is a balancing plant. It helps people to find the middle way and thus, it is suitable for fighting nervousness and listlessness, depression and overstimulation. It fights anxiety and melancholy, stimulates and relaxes.

Rosemary

The Greek name of the plant "Dendrolivano" is a combination of the words tree and frankincense, while the Latin name Rosmarinus means rose of the sea.

Rosemary is used in cooking as a flavouring and for the production of infusions. Its oil, which is rich in phenolic components such as phenolic acids and flavonoids, The decoction fights diarrhoea and hair loss, and is indicated for, among other things, atony, headache, colds, overwork, exhaustion and depression.

Sage

Sage is the predominantly Greek sage, with widespread uses as a medicinal plant in botany and folk medicine. The leaves and flowers of the plant are used for therapeutic purposes. Its wide range of applications includes conditions such as pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis (emollient, expectorant and antimicrobial action), diarrhoea, gastroenteritis, dysentery (astringent and antiseptic action), dysmenorrhoea, leukorrhoea, hypotension, diabetes, arthritis.

It also promotes digestion and prevents the formation of gases (anaphase, digestive), is diuretic and laxative, antiseptic (for aphthae and halitosis) and anticancer.

Dittany (Diktamo)

Healing herb for digestion, stomach, intestine, fights headache, neuralgia, muscle aches, against flu and colds and other ailments.

Origanum dictamnus is the most famous of the Cretan endemic plants.

Oregano

Apart from the characteristic aroma and taste that oregano leaves in food, it has many medicinal properties. It is tonic, appetizing, stimulant, antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal. In the form of decoctions it is used for atony of the intestines, expectorant for coughs, helps with hypertension and arteriosclerosis.

Lemon thyme

The lemon thyme is considered one of the hardiest varieties with the most intense aroma. It is an evergreen small shrub that reaches a height of 20-30 cm.

Its flowers are lilac and its leaves are yellow-green oval and smell like lemon. The difference with common thyme is that lemon thyme has larger leaves and they are not curved inwards.

Thyme

Thyme leaves, when dried, emit their aroma when rubbed in our hands, giving a strong taste and flavouring fish, meat, sauces and soups.

In medicine, thyme can be used as a drink for stomach and intestinal problems and also for relief from coughs, sniffles and flu. It helps to treat hair loss but also for gingivitis, stomatitis and irritated tonsils are treated with gargles with a decoction without honey or sugar.

Marjoram

The marjoram, also a native plant of Crete, has been known since ancient times to the Cretans and of course to the Ancient Greeks.

It was used as a remedy against stomach and intestinal disorders, nervous disorders and even for the treatment of the common cold.

In pharmacy it was used for diseases of the heart, fever and in the antisepsis of wounds.

Other uses: It is analgesic for muscle pains, sprains and neuralgia, indicated for respiratory diseases, considered expectorant, diaphoretic, panacea for nervous cough, colds, tonsils, bronchitis and asthma. It is digestive, antispasmodic, antiemetic, relieves indigestion, stimulates the liver and spleen, is a diuretic.

Mountain Tea (Malotira)

Its leaves are small and fuzzy, while in summer it forms spikes of yellow flowers. It is used not only as an excellent decoction in aroma and taste, but also for the treatment or prevention of many diseases
